Kohi Beach Cafe

Kohi Beach is a dynamic eatery and store servicing its loyal customers all day long. With a diverse offering, including a cafe, restaurant, store and gelateria, we needed to produce a design concept versatile enough to tie the different offerings together while allowing space for their distinction from one another. In such an exquisite location we also needed to capitalise on the site’s outlook and reference the area in our material selections.

Natural textures and warm tones are used throughout the space, drawing from the spectacular surrounds. Timber joinery and furniture pair with shell-like tiles as a clear visual link to the beach across the road. Timber scaling references the peeling bark of the ancient Pohutukawa trees that frame the view, also acting as a low dado to continue the line of the horizon.

A minimal palette is carried throughout the spaces, keeping the fitout modern and refined while allowing room for the more casual offerings to show a bit more personality.  Ambient lighting creates a feeling of the warm light from the day carrying into the evening, bringing a sense of comfort and continuing the beachfront links.

Refined, consistent and at home in its location, it’s no wonder Kohi Beach Eatery & Store has become one of Auckland’s busiest spots.
